“Well, accidents happen, Mr. Reign. You weren’t the only one called out of work, and I’m sure the girls both learned their lesson.” I forced a smile, hoping he’d drop the hard-ass look.
No such luck.
I glanced at the principal out of the corner of my eye, hoping she’d have something to say. But before she could even open her mouth, the guy spoke again.
“Yes, we can hope this doesn’t happen again. Make sure your daughter knows that.”
I whipped my head around. “Excuse me? You think my daughter, out of the blue, on her first day, decided ‘Hey, let’s try and unclog a toilet and flood the bathroom!’”
He smirked, the only crack in his exterior. “Never happened before with my daughter and she’s been going here since preschool.”
This guy had some nerve.
“Yeah, well, people change. Not everyone can solve kids’ problems in twenty minutes with a laugh track.” The words flew out of my lips before I could take them back.
I really needed to learn how to use a filter.
“You really just used a sitcom line?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Well, you are Lennox Reign, aren’t you? Former poster boy, even with your own milk mustache campaign? I’m sure you raised enough hell as a teen star,” I spat.
He shook his head, blowing a breath of air out of his nose as he muttered, “Un-fucking-believable.”
Finally, the principal walked around her desk, putting her hands out. “Okay, I think that’s enough. Both of your daughters have been given a warning, and we will make sure this doesn’t happen again. Okay? No need for language.”
“You’re right, Ambro. Sorry for getting out of hand,” Lennox said, offering her a smile but not even glancing in my direction.
Ass.

“You can’t get rid of me that easily.” Connor struggled to keep his tone light. He had no idea what had gotten into Faith… unless her plans were code for a date with a new boyfriend.  Something she had every right to pursue, especially given that he hadn’t made a move on her.
Ever.
Their relationship meant too much to him. Faith was too precious to potentially lose, even if it meant he suffered in the meantime. However, that didn’t mean he liked the fact that she was looking for something he couldn’t possibly give her, not even with the billions he owned.
“I’m not trying to get rid of you, Mr.—”
“Connor. I think we’re past formalities, don’t you?” he said, peeved that she’d treat him differently because of his last name.
She leaned forward, her hair like a dark waterfall pooling on the top of the counter between them. “I’m at work and I have work to do.”
“I don’t care.” He slashed his hand through the air. “You’re using my last name to put a wall between us.”
“Here, there is a wall between us,” she said, her tone insistent. Her brows crashed together as she lowered her voice, “What’s gotten into you?”
He avoided meeting her gaze. “Are you dating someone?” He all but growled the question like an animal. He knew the day would come that she’d find someone to replace him, but it felt like a knife in the back.
“I have plans to go on a date.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “You should do the same thing. Heck, I’ll help you find someone. Okay?”
No, it wasn’t okay because he’d already fucking found his perfect match and she stood in front of him.  “Pass.”
She sighed thickly. “You’re being unreasonable.”
“I’m being honest,” he snapped.
“You’re being a jerk and that’s not like you.”
“Maybe I’ve changed.”
“In the last ten minutes?” She shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
He both loved and hated how well she knew him. “I have to go.” He stalked away, tossing over his shoulder, “Best of luck on your date, Ms. Holt.”
“Don’t you walk away from me, Connor Aiden Montgomery ,” she called after him.
He stopped, slowing turning, bracing for the impact of this woman who truly didn’t give a damn about his last name.
Faith raised her dark brows at him, her pale blue eyes flashing. Her cheeks were pink with anger. In her black pencil skirt, bright green blouse and conservative heels, she looked every inch the librarian.  And she was so damn beautiful that it made his heart ache.
She marched up to him, her finger wagging at him. “You need to apologize.”
He exhaled. “I’m sorry.”
“That’s better.” She smiled up at him, her plump lips a temptation that took every ounce of his will to resist. “When we get together for dinner tonight, I expect you to not only cook but to be in a much better mood.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Stop trying to distract me with your Scottish accent.”
He gave her an innocent smile. “Wouldn’t dream of it, lass.”
“Now, I have to go back to work.” She adjusted his tie, fussing over him and he loved every damn second of it.  “Are we okay?”
“Yes.” He grabbed her hand, pressing to his heart. “I promise to be on my best behavior this evening.”
“Good because I have high standards, and I need to know your opinion of the guy that I have plans with this weekend.”
His gut twisted.  “Consider me at your service.”  Only he knew, for the first time, he wouldn’t be able to be completely honest with her.
In fact, for the first time during their decades of friendship, he was jealous.

“The dark night of the soul? Mind telling me what the hell that was about?” The heavy wooden door echoed through the tight chamber when it slammed against the door jamb.
Bastien remained still across the small sacristy, head bowed as he continued to work quietly, deft fingers sliding thin, golden ropes of sacred fabric through his fingers. “I’d rather know what you think.”
Frustration thickened my blood. “I’m your dark night of the soul?! I think you went a step too far.”
“If that’s what you call a step too far I’d hate to hear what you call indecent.” His body was against mine in an instant, my breasts heaving with shallow irritation and grazing the fabric of his vestments.
This profoundly infuriating man was under my skin like no one else had ever been, and just like a bad tattoo, I’d pay a professional to gouge him out of my soul if I could.
“This, for instance,” he hissed, “is surely a step too close to your precious comfort zone.” His body pressed closer, the deep ridge of his arousal cutting at my hip and causing my throat to crack and turn to dust. “Don’t trick yourself into believing that you know you more than I do, Tressa.”
His dark eyes glinted in the dim light, heartbeat vibrating in my ears the only noise in the room. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
I couldn’t catch my breath, his fingers crawling their way past my wrists, grazing the underside of my elbows before his thumbs dug in and he was as far deep inside my own heart as he could possibly go.
“You like the dance, sweet dove, but just when things get intimate you pull away.”
His scathing truth cut like a hot blade.
“No,” I squeaked.
His soft chuckle my only reply, my eyelids already glued shut in opposition of his words.
“You think you only show me the side of you you want me to see,” Bastien’s thumb danced the arch of my brow, “but I see so much more than that.” His eyes flicked down to my lips, hips working softly against mine.
“I’m trained to see the broken parts you’ve spent a lifetime hiding. I’m trained to be your light in the darkness, Tressa, but all that darkness,” his thumbs worked inside my elbows, swaying me against his body as he grit against my neck, “it weighs on me some days. Seminary doesn’t teach a flesh and blood man how to channel all that darkness into…” he flexed behind his robes, my body humming with pure desire for anything more he had to give, “productive activities.”
I didn’t have a reply for him, the way he swallowed my space and caused my heart to thrum like a hummingbird was distracting enough, but his skin setting flame to mine was beyond unbearable.
“What about you, then?” I summoned my earlier anger. “You fancy yourself some sort of holier than thou saint? Forgive me Father, but I call bullshit.”
Bastien’s eyes held mine, the amusement chasing through his chocolate irises giving me enough satisfaction to live on for days.
I squared my shoulders. “You’re a prisoner to your belief.”
His eyebrows rose, shock striking him before his face settled to that same well-orchestrated calm he reserved for his parishioners. “You can bet I’m a prisoner, but not for the reasons you think.”
His admission caught me off guard, but not more than the next moment did.
His palms caught my face, thumbs trailing down the warmth of my throat before he smashed our lips together.
His kiss defiled as much as it gave life.
He raped me to the depths of my soul without ever removing a strip of my clothing.
“But that’s where my beliefs with the church diverge.” He lips teased at the corners of my mouth before his tongue darted out, tasting the bow of my top lip.
Oh sweet fucking heaven.
“I happen to believe it isn’t living if you’re not breaking a rule every now and again.”
He caught the soft whimper on my lips with his, swallowing it instantly before his tongue pushed past the barrier and he was sheathed in me again.
His taste, far deadlier than I’d remembered.
“Despite what my church may believe,” Bastien’s thumbs hooked at my shirt, the warm pads of his fingertips sliding against my skin and cutting through my nerves like hot butter, “I can’t renounce you.”
His palms slid up my torso, divesting me of my shirt while one hand cupped a shiny chalice, drips of wine already making their way between my breasts. Staining the satin bra I wore, pooling in my navel, soaking a rebel river of red overtop the elastic of my panties.
“I know the taste of sin, sweet Tressa, I’ve tasted it every night in my dreams. Craving you is a new and deadlier form of hell than the last I’d overcome.” He dropped to his knees, the empty cup slipping to the floor and soaking his white robes in scarlet before his tongue met my flesh in slow swipes, eyes glinting as he held me flush to his mouth.
Soft mewls formed on my lips as my body fell apart in his arms, limbs loose as he worked his way up my body, tongue tasting every inch of the blessed wine from my skin as he went.
“I am very surely a prisoner to you, my sweet dove.”

CLARE'S 4 STAR REVIEW

Rebel Saint was an enjoyable enough read, it's not the best priest/parishioner forbidden romance that i've ever read but it did have it's merits. Firstly Father Bastien is a holy man that lusts after Tressa and he actively pursues her, it was a rather refreshing change that even though they have an attraction to each other he is actually the one that makes the first move. Most books of this genre/theme seem to always make the woman seem to be immoral by leading the priest into giving in to temptation. It did have an interesting backstory and with secrets found hiding in the attic at St. Michaels it did make the story have a little more depth than just being your average taboo romance.
My only dislike of the story was how Father Bastien knowingly tells Tressa he could never give up his god for her but he still pursues her and takes her innocence, it's a bit predatory. She comes across as a naive young girl that is easily mislead. She is definitely a lamb to the slaughter, but with most romances it all comes good in the end.
The writing was good and the story was easy to read. If you love a taboo romance you will love this book too!

An Officer's Vow (Gentlemen Book 2)An Officer's Vow by Penny Hampson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lottie Benham is a damsel in distress and Major Nate Crawford comes to her aid and becomes her saviour. This was such a thrilling story to read, for an historical romance it's so full of angst and danger as the characters set out together on an exciting adventure, whilst traveling the length and breadth of the country. What started out as a plan of escape and self preservation for Lottie, it quickly becomes a dangerous mission to protect the nation.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this author which made this book a pleasure to read. Nate is such a chivalrous man, he was such an easy character to like, Lottie is a strong but often stubborn young woman that I liked once we got to know more about her as the story moved along. There are some very pulse racing scenes as they come to face their nemesis and plenty of romantic suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely read more stories from them in the future.

CLARE'S 5 STAR REVIEW

Nothing Without You is my first book to have read by this author, and I was really impressed with how great her writing is, I only wish i'd read more books by Monica before now. I absolutely love a second chance romance and this is totally up there with some of my favorites. I found that even though this is only a novella I was given enough information to get to really like Maisy and Tucker's characters, and I really got to understand their connection with each other very well, I never once felt like anything was missing from their backstory by not having a longer build up to their HEA. This was a really great read that I enjoyed very much. It's sweet, it's funny, it's a bit angsty but most of all it's a hot romance that I just couldn't put down. Some really great writing that made for a very enjoyable afternoons reading.

Excerpt

Brogan had intentionally given me a glimpse into himself by expressing his feelings in words he’d never shared with another living soul. But in that moment, when his eyes met mine, he offered me something else.
Likely unaware he’d even done so.
He gave me a piece of his vulnerability. His pain. A sliver of the hidden humiliation that he kept buried beneath a painted canvas. Covered in graffiti. Locked behind years of loss and doubt. It crossed his brow in shallow valleys of hesitation and colored his cheeks in raw insecurity.
He was open. Closed off. Pushing me away while desperately trying to hold me close.
It was too much to process at once, leaving me immobile, grounded in place. The only thing I could do was open my mouth and give him honesty. “Your words…they make my chest hurt. As I read them, I breathed them in, and they burrowed themselves next to my heart. Took up residence within my lungs. They’re powerful enough to keep me safe, yet just as capable of destroying me.”
“Mercy…”
“They make my eyes burn. Every vowel, every period. Every syllable you wrote and verse you formed did something to me that I’ve never experienced. I’ve never read something so beautiful, something that literally brought tears to my eyes.”
“Mercy, that’s enough.” Beneath the stern tone and harsh shell lay a boy who couldn’t accept my praise. “I didn’t do it for compliments. You said you didn’t know me, so I’m showing you who I am. You think I’m using you to kill time until Jessica comes back, and I’m trying to prove to you that I’m not. I don’t need your approval. I need you.”
Under his intense scrutiny, I became fully aware of my state of undress.
“I’m, uh… I’m going to put on some pants.” I took a few steps backward, holding my shirt down in the front.
“Hey, Mercy? Could you do me a favor?”
I stopped and held his stare.
“Next time you hang out with your ex, can you tell him that if he ever contacts me again, he’ll wish he’d never learned how to type? Thanks.”
“He did what? He texted you?”
He went right back to browning the meat, continuing as if he hadn’t just dropped a bomb at my feet. “Email, but yeah. Same thing. I think he got off on telling me that I’m runner-up. I guess you told him that you’re waiting to see if he lied about where he was that night? And if he was telling the truth, you plan to get our marriage annulled?”
“He twisted what I said.”
“Then I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t give a shit what he had to say.” He moved the pan off the burner. “Although, I don’t think he liked it too much when I told him I hoped he enjoyed the taste of my cum, because I fucked your pussy so hard and so deep it’ll be a while before it’s all out.”
I was shocked. And mortified. And incredibly turned on by his possessiveness.
“Did you really?”
His smile became visible in his eyes first, but half a second later, it was drawn across his face.
