LiesLies by Kylie Scott
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I totally fell in love with the cover of this book and after reading the blurb, it had me imagining such a hottie action super hero inside but unfortunately, Thom just didn't quite live up to the expectations I had created of him in my head. I was hoping for John Wick and I got Johnny English instead. Betty on the other hand came across as a bit of a naive and whiney girl at the start of the story and I just didn't like her character very much, but then after a while, suddenly her whole character's personality just up and changed itself and she became a woman with some balls that I really admired.
The whole story is a mixed bag of lies and emotions that I felt is a little over done to death in the romantic suspense genre but having said that I did still like some of the story as the writing got better as the plotline moved along, it was a slow starter for me that was like a snowball rolling down a hill that builds up on size and speed and then BAM! it suddenly reached the bottom and explosion happens everywhere.
It's not a bad story but it's not the best story i've ever read by this author either. If you like a romcom with a bit of farcical drama thrown in, then this book is for you.

Chapter 1

Midnight. The witching hour. The time evil came out to play. It was also the time when they arrived. The roar of engines sliced through the silence of night and set my heart racing. My skin tingled, and heat spread through me like wildfire.
It was him. The man I’d been watching from my bedroom window ever since they started coming around. He would come once a week, and always around midnight. Three motorcycles would be parked in the dark out front, and I would watch as he and two other men made their way to our front door.
Leather cuts, torn jeans, and shit-kicker boots set them apart from us and our designer label clothing. Even in the dark they looked mean and callous.
One of them had a clean-shaven head, and the other short hair, cut neatly. But him? He had longer hair. Dark—the same color as midnight—and it settled just below his shoulders. It was never styled, never neatly put in place, but always disheveled. There was this thing he did with his hair after taking off his helmet, pushing his fingers through the strands and pulling it back. It was like he tried to make it seem more…chaotic. Messed up. Perfect.
From the second floor of our house, it was easy to see his frame was bigger than the other two. Long body, broad shoulders, denim jeans clinging to thick thighs. During the last year, I had committed every inch of his frame to memory. Thinking about him. Fantasizing…my stranger in the dark.
His weekly visits were one of my father’s many secrets. A well-respected police commissioner’s reputation would be ruined if the public knew about his ties with one of New York’s most notorious motorcycle gangs. I never could figure out what kind of business my dad would have with these men. But while I stared from my window at the man in the shadows, I didn’t really care. The way my heart kept racing, my stomach filled with a kind of excitement I’d never felt before, I knew I had grown addicted to it. The thrill of watching him, studying him…desiring him.
He never looked around when he walked up to the front door. Under the dim light that came from the porch, I could make out the contour of his face and the shadow of his beard. But everything about him screamed business. Determination. Danger. Every step he took was calculated, confident, and undeniably dominant. He was the alpha, the leader—even I could see that.
The weekly visits usually lasted about an hour, maybe less. And I would wait by the window with so much expectation from the prospect of catching another glimpse of him, because this was the exciting part. The part where he left. It was the part I loved the most.
The front door would open, and first I’d see their shadows falling on the well-manicured lawn and cobble walkway. I would lean to the side of the window, my heart thumping erratically inside my chest…waiting…anticipating.
Then he would appear, his back toward me. The cut he wore told me who he was, a member of the American Street Kings—a wicked skull with the American flag proudly displayed on the leather. It was beautiful and threatening at the same time.
He’d reach his Harley, and I would straighten, my heart wanting to crawl out of my throat. My stomach would turn into a thousand knots within a split second as I watched him throw his cigarette to the ground, pressing on the little yellow coal with his boot. He would turn his head, glancing over his shoulder in my direction. Then, finally, the moment I had been waiting for ever since I heard the roar of their motorcycles coming down our driveway.
The moment when he turned around and looked right at me. I swallowed hard, equal parts excitement and fear running rampant inside me, but I refused to look away because it was all there. It was there, in his eyes. I could see it all the way from the second floor. The promise. The vow…the warning.
He would come for me. One day. Whether I wanted him to or not.

One Night of Temptation (Wicked Dukes Club #6)One Night of Temptation by Darcy Burke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a delightful story with plenty of angst, a little danger and plenty of romance to satisfy any reader that loves this genre. This is my first time reading a story by Darcy Burke and I must say that I was really impressed by her ability to tell a story that not only captives your imagination, it gives you all the thrills and excitement you crave from this kind of story. The plot was most interesting to me as it was something i'd never come across before in historical romance, a rich young lady that falls in love with a rector was a refreshing change to the usual hero of being a Duke or a Rake.
Penelope and Hugh had such great chemistry between them that it made them so believable as a couple, and to fall in love so fast with each other. I really liked both of their characters and they way they found each other was such an exciting twist in the story.
This was a whirlwind romance story that I enjoyed very much and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

My Fair Viscount (The Scandal Sheet, #4)My Fair Viscount by Jess Michaels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is another great read from Jess Michaels, this novella features David Shaw and Miss Rose Higgins in a rather exciting rags to riches story. The telling of this story was very good and the story was most certainly very entertaining to read. The characters had a good connection with each other and I loved how we got to see a few older characters from the 1797 club series appear for a brief moment within the story. My only reason not to give this book 5 Stars is that I would have loved more of the back story for both of Rose and David, and maybe that's not possible for a story of this length but I felt that this book would have been so much better at being a full length novel as it left me wanting to find out more of what both of the lead characters had endured in their lives, other than that I really did love the idea behind their love story and so maybe it's just the fact that Jess's writing is alway so good that I find myself always wanting more from this author!

Hurricane HeartsHurricane Hearts by Nina Levine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was unputdownable!!!!
It's been quite a while since i've read such a heart wrenching story like this, that the writing was just so good that it swept me away and almost drowned me in the sea of hurt, pain and suffering that Winter and Birdie put each other through, that after all that plays out between them I was still able to love both of their characters, and prayed for them to get their HEA is some major achievement. Nina has written such an amazing love story that will not only grip your heart in a vice and squeeze it hard, it will show you that two people that are meant to be together can overcome anything together.
Winter is such a great character, I just loved him for how he made me swoon from all the passion and love he had for Birdie, and for how determined he was that he just wouldn't give up on what his heart wanted. Birdie even though she is often far too stubborn for her own good at times, is still a woman that I could easily connect with so much so that I could feel everything she goes through, and my heart broke right along with hers.
This is a beautiful story of a deep unbreakable love that is now one of my favorites from this author!

...She couldn’t be more wrong.
Because tonight, it’s me who’ll be stealing her.

I know what you came for. I know you thought it’d be easy. I know you thought I would be easy. Spoiler, it won’t be, and I’m not.

I know I should have you arrested. A man with my wealth and my power could ruin you with a snap of the fingers. But I won’t.
